Sea Shells - MultiMedia

 Sea Shells

For this project, I wanted to create something with texture, sculpture and lots of fun colours. I had been on holiday, where I collected Earthy materials both for design elements and inspiration for this piece.  My colour pallet is themed after the bright orange and purple shells I was shocked to find.

Materials Used:
4x4 wood as a canvas, primer, coloured paint, seashells, air compressor and liquid glue
Paper pulp: Shredded (used) paper, water, liquid glue, a tall bucket and a drill/mixer

Step One: Collect Seashells

Step Two: Cut, sand, and prime wood canvas

Step Three: Paint the canvas

(practice pieces with air compressor)

Step Five: Make the paper pulp

To make the pulp, I shredded used paper into chunks and soaked them in water for 30 minutes until it falls apart. Afterwards, I mashed the paper (this process is similar to making mashed potatoes).
Next, I squeezed the water out of the paper pulp and lastly poured liquid glue into the mixture.
(I did not use the tool in the top left corner, I was working in my father's woodshop, so there are random tools everywhere.)

Step Six: Apply the pulp to the canvas and spread seashells

Detail Images

This piece is covered in texture, the shells and paper pulp are three-dimensional, and the thick paint is textured from the use of the air compressor.
This project took me several days and just over 9 hours of work.
